I thought I would do my little part to help her in her heartwarming quest for the rightful owner of this partially completed sweater made from Rowan yarn. more…

Have you heard of yarnbombing? How about The Toy Society?

Yarnbombing is when anonymous folks create something with yarn and leave it in a public place. While most yarnbombings are fairly simple tube-like works like the one found to left in New York, some bombings are quite elaborate and truly works of art.

haiti reliefCrafters I know on Twitter have quickly come together to launch a silent auction to help the devastated residents of Haiti. Early yesterday morning, the Tweets were flying as one crafter took the lead on this project and is now hosting the auction on her website – Indie Fixx.

The Indie Fixx Haiti Relief Fundraiser will offer several handmade items on the auction block each day. Bidding is done through blog comments with the high bidder taking home the terrific handmade item and making a donation to the Red Cross International Response Fund.

Jen Wallace, the organizer of the auction and owner of Indie Fixx has also generously offered to pay all of the Paypal fees associated with the auction to allow 100% of the monies raised to go to the effort to help Haiti.

You can visit the auction here – Indie Fixx Haiti Relief Fundraiser.

Be sure to check back daily as items will be on the block for only a day and new items will be added daily.

The wonderful logo for the auction was donated by Khristian A. Howell. Kristian is a surface designer, graphic designer and photographer.

sharing loveSomeone shared this story of giving with me and I thought I would help to spread the world.

Krista Shugart, a high school student in New Jersey was inspired by her volunteer work in a local soup kitchen to do something more. People would come to the soup kitchen without scarves and hats and Krista decided that she could offer the patrons something more.

Knit/Crochet for a Cause was born and Krista, along with 24 of her friends and fellow students began meeting once a week for an hour and a half. In seven weeks, the group has already produced six baby blankets, six baby hats, 24 teen/adult hats, and 23 scarves. The group is still growing as is their at knitting and crochet abilities.

I love that along with the picture of Krista which accompanies the story is one of a young boy carefully knitting a blue and white scarf. I’ve always known boys knit too, but it’s always fun to see the young ones doing it.

Learn more about Krista and how you can help Knit/Crochet for a Cause by visiting the original news story in her hometown paper – Helping Hands Knit for a Cause. They are looking for more volunteers and new or clean used yarn to continue their efforts.
